Withdrawals

Withdrawals from the GEM Explorer Exchange programme only apply after students have accepted their Allocation Offer. Actions prior to that, such as cancelling your online application or rejecting an Allocation Offer by the deadline, are NOT considered a withdrawal and will NOT incur any penalties or affect priority for future applications.

Students are required to withdraw roughly within two (2) months upon accepting the Allocation Offer, with the exception of special circumstances detailed below. For the exact deadlines and procedure for withdrawal, please read How to Withdraw below.

It will take at least four (4) weeks from the time the OGEM office receives the official withdrawal form for the withdrawal to be processed. Withdrawals may be subjected to a face-to-face interview at the OGEM office. You will be contacted should this be required.

Penalty

Students who withdraw from GEM Explorer will face a penalty unless they provide a valid reason for withdrawing.

The penalty for withdrawal is

  • S$ 500.00

  • lower priority* should you try to apply for GEM Explorer in future application exercises

Students who withdraw after accepting the Allocation Offer in Round 1 can still apply in the Final Round or to future intakes.

Reason(s) for Withdrawal

Valid reasons are circumstances that occur outside of or despite the student's good planning or control. These circumstances include:

  • unforeseen medical issues/illness that prevent student from participating in the programme or exchange destination

  • death, illness in the family or sudden changes in financial situation

Do note that course matching is not considered a valid reason for withdrawal.

The validity of reason is ultimately subjected to the OGEM office's discretion.

Students who withdraw after accepting the Allocation Offer in Round 1 can still apply in the Final Round or to future intakes. Priority shall NOT be affected regardless of the outcome of review.

How to Withdraw

Students are required to withdraw before certain dates depending on the semester the exchange takes place in, with the exception of special unforeseen circumstances (detailed above). The deadlines for withdrawal are listed below:

  • Students going on exchange in Semester 1: Before April

  • Students going on exchange in Semester 2: Before September

To withdraw from the programme,

    1. Complete the withdrawal form via GEM Mobility Portal.

    2. Supporting documents to email to GEM-Explorer@ntu.edu.sg if applicable (ie. illness, death in the family, sudden changes in financial situation)
    3. You may be contacted for a face-to-face interview regarding your withdrawal at the OGEM office.

We would like to reiterate that it will take at least four (4) weeks from the time the OGEM office receives the official withdrawal form for the withdrawal to be processed. This means that it will take at least 4 weeks for you to be notified of the decision OGEM makes on your withdrawal.

* Students who withdraw after accepting the Allocation Offer in Round 1 can still apply in future rounds of the same Academic Year intake or to future intakes. Your priority shall not be affected regardless of the outcome of review.
