Financial Aid & Managing Your Finances 

Proper financial planning is an important part of your GEM Explorer experience. Ensure that you have sufficient funds to see you through your time abroad.

 

You may find an estimated breakdown of the financial costs below (costs would vary from individual to individual and is based on the personal spending habits of the student):  


Some cost estimates of students going to:

 

·         Asia – S$5,000 - S$6,000

·         Oceania – S$10,000 onwards

·         Americas – S$12,000 to S$15,000 onwards

·         Europe & Africa – S$12,000 to S$15,000 onwards

 

However, there are also several financial assistance schemes available to students who wish to seek financial support while on exchange.

 

The following links will provide you with information on the different types of awards, scholarships, loans and grants offered by NTU and external agencies. The selection criteria for these schemes vary from award to award. Please read the information carefully before you apply for exchange

GEM Explorer Scholarship

DUO-Singapore Exchange Fellowship Award

(for those who apply for European partner universities)

The Asia-Europe Meeting's (ASEM) DUO Fellowship Fund aims to promote student exchanges between European and Asian ASEM member countries. Under this fund, the DUO-Singapore Exchange Fellowship is awarded by the Singapore Government to Singapore and ASEAN students studying in the Nanyang Technological University (NTU), National University of Singapore (NUS) and Singapore Management University (SMU). The Award is also open to students from European ASEM countries (who come from universities with fee waiver arrangements with NTU, NUS and SMU).

The Award, based on merit, is for a pair of exchanges between a university in Singapore and its respective partner university in Europe in any academic field. Each student will be awarded a maximum of 4,000 Euros for one semester of up to four months, which covers airfare, accommodation and living expenses.

There is no bond imposed by the Singapore Government for the Award, which is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

 

JASSO Scholarship (Japan)

The JASSO scholarship is open to international students accepted by Japanese universities, graduate schools, or colleges of technology under the student exchange agreement on a short-term basis from about three months to one year. The monthly stipend is around ¥80,000 per month. This amount may vary from year to year.to qualify for this stipend, you must not be a Japanese national and you must be a citizen of a country that has diplomatic relations with Japan.

Defence Science & Technology Agency Academic Exchange
Scholarship (DSTA ACE)

*** Application NOW OPEN till 17 March 2013 ***

 

The DSTA Academic Exchange (ACE) Scholarship is open to second year engineering, computing and science local undergraduates who have the interest to pursue their third year studies in France, Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic (preferred SEP countries).

This scholarship aims to increase the diversity in the educational experience of our scholars as it provides overseas study opportunities with reputable universities in countries like France, Germany and Sweden.

The eligibility criteria of the scholarship is as follows:

- Be a Singapore Citizen

-  Have obtained a CAP of 4.2 or equivalent during application

- Be a second-year engineering, computing and science undergraduate in NTU or NUS

- Have the interest to pursue your third-year studies in France/Germany/Sweden/the Netherlands/Poland/Hungary/Czech Republic (preferred SEP countries)

- Have a passion for science and technology

Italian Scholarships

(provided by the Italian Cultural Institute of Singapore)

The Italian Cultural Institution in Singapore is offering scholarships to Singaporean students for research programs, university courses, post-graduate studies and special courses at universities, academies, research centres, archives, libraries and other official institutions.

The Baden-Württemberg Scholarship (Germany)

The Baden-Württemberg Scholarship programme is a scholarship programme that provides specific support to enable qualified youths to take part in a placement abroad and so to broaden their personal horizons. Each year, exchanges involving about 1,200 scholarship holders are "promoted". That makes the Baden-Württemberg Scholarship a unique programme in Germany. This scholarship is open to students who wish to study at Baden-Württemberg universities.

The OSP Loan is open to financially needy full-time NTU undergraduates going for the following programmes overseas:

 A student is only eligible for one OSP Loan during his/her course of study at NTU.
