Tan Shih Jia Janice, Bioengineering

Exploring different cities of Vietnam, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City and then roaming around the two different cities, gave me a first hand recount of the ‘Vietnam Experience’. It gave me a pretty much clear understanding of the culture of Vietnam. This summer spent in Vietnam was worthwhile and fruitful as it exposed me to different sides of the world. I would say the overall experience was awesome.

Charlene Tan Su En, Communication Studies

Experiencing a different way of life for a month, seeing how the Vietnamese travel to work each morning on their motorbikes, weaving through the congestion each day is something I marvel at. It has showed me that the working environment differs all over the world.

Jayashri D/O Lokarajan, English

From a cultural perspective, Vietnam stands unique due to its diverse cultural influences from China, America, France as well as Russia. From its diverse range of ethnic groups and minorities to the national language,Vietnam is truly one of its kind. Through the programme, I learnt a lot about the lifestyle and practices of the Vietnamese from the local students.

Lim Chien Kai, Aerospace Engineering

During my experience, i constantly ventured beyond the planned and structured program arranged and had many opportunities to explore places alone and see things without the hustle and bustle of a crowd. With these opportunities, the experience allowed me to deviate from being a tourist and assimilate easier into the lives of the local and gauge myself the living conditions and lifestyle of the commoners in the country.

Hashirin Nurin Binte Hashimi, Communication Studies

The initiatives by the government - like building the business infrastructure and providing incentives - to encourage Singaporean businesses to venture to countries like Vietnam makes it very attractive for one to pursue a career outside of Singapore. Immersion programmes such as this where we are given a taste of what the country is like, makes it even more attractive.

Li Duanyi Karen, Accountancy

Besides seeing for myself what Vietnam has to offer, hearing from the locals and foreigners who have stayed in the country for varying periods of time proved to be extremely insightful. The way the entire programme was structured greatly facilitated the learning process and self discovery. The lectures were excellent complements to the visits to the tourist attractions and companies.

Chew Fong Fong Carene, Economics

I am very appreciative of the whole idea behind the Vietnam Summer Program where students have this rare chance to live and interact with locals on a day by day basis. In fact, the social network has already been built for us. This means, all in all, if you know the right people, you can get around a country without even knowing a word of its language like we did.

Tan Hwang Hwei Alda, Computer Science

During this summer exchange, I had the chance to meet people from all walks of life. Fellow students of different faculties, different mindset, and university coordinators with life experience to speak of, local students to share the rich culture of their country, and the local and minority tribal people who are always so ready and eager to help the lost traveler.
